Senior Friendly Fun in Portsmouth

Share this:

As changing leaves and cooler days approach, our residents get excited to enjoy all that Portsmouth has to offer this time of year! While we all have favorite spots to frequent, we also want to share some senior-friendly, fun local events and activities to look forward to this fall!

Sept – October: Inland River & Fall Foliage Cruise

What better way to take in the autumnal scenery than by boat? We think seniors and visitors of all ages will enjoy boarding The Heritage on the Inland River, and cruising past ships of all sizes as well as old military and merchant shipyards. It then travels along the Cocheco River in Dover surrounded by the beautiful Autumn landscape. The Inland River & Fall Foliage Cruise sounds like the perfect way to spend a warm fall day if you ask us!

Sept 24 & 25: Portsmouth Fairy House Tour

We think the annual Portsmouth Fairy House Tour would be a sweet event for grandparents to attend with grandkids! Attendees are invited to come enjoy hundreds of enchanting, special made fairy houses dotted along the properties of the Strawbery Banke Museum, New England Governor John Langdon House, and Prescott Park. The fun continues with mystical fairy performances by the Southern New Hampshire Dance Theater and New Hampshire Theatre Project. Wander the enchanted gardens and enjoy the properties of the Strawbery Banke Museum, New England Governor John Langdon House, and Prescott Park!

Aside from all of the fun, the event supports FOSE (Friends of the South End). “FOSE’s mission is to foster a cooperative, neighborly spirit and to encourage the preservation of the South End’s historic character…The proceeds from this long-standing collaborative community event benefit our local schools and participating nonprofit partners.”

Sept 25: Walk to end ALZ

Supporting research to end Alzheimer’s is a cause near and dear to our hearts at Wentworth Senior Living. Last year we even organized a team for the ALZ Walk, “The WSL Walkstars” (pictured below) and will be walking again this year!

Aside from joining the Portsmouth community to support ALZ initiatives, 600 communities across the country come together to walk annually – this is truly an opportunity to be a part of something bigger! Attendees are encouraged to register ahead of time (though it is not required), and to fundraise for the Alzheimer’s Association with their team!

One of our team’s favorite parts of the ALZ walk experience has been the Promise Garden! “The Promise Garden is a mission-focused experience that signifies our solidarity in the fight against the disease. The colors of the Promise Garden Flowers represent each participant’s connection to Alzheimer’s — and their reasons for wanting to end the disease.”

Aside from these exciting community events, we always have a robust activities calendar for Wentworth Senior Living residents to enjoy. Whether you plan to attend a community event in Portsmouth, or simply join us for an event at the residences, we hope you are looking forward to a fun-filled fall!
