Long-time Partnership Helps to Provide Dining Experience for Community Seniors
PORTSMOUTH, N.H. – March 8, 2017 – Wentworth Senior Living (WSL), a nonprofit senior living community well-known in Portsmouth for more than 100 years, announced today a continued partnership with the Portsmouth Senior Activity Center. Long established as a local partner to many organizations in the Seacoast region, WSL will once again serve as the lead sponsor for the monthly luncheons hosted by the senior center.
“We are thrilled that Wentworth Senior Living has continued its sponsorship of our luncheon program,” said Brinn Sullivan, Senior Services Supervisor, Portsmouth Senior Activity Center. “It’s exciting that they continue to be committed to helping us bring a high-quality lunch and social program to older adults in the Portsmouth area.”
Luncheons at the senior center are a staple in the community as an affordable, convenient and premium dining experience for seniors. Thanks in part to WSL’s leading sponsorship, the meal price is only $5 and includes soup, salad, sandwich, dessert, coffee and tea, all served in a white tablecloth setting with volunteer wait staff.
The luncheons are held the fourth Thursday of each month at noon. Many community seniors arrive at 10:30 a.m. to watch the line dancers perform their monthly recital or to socialize with friends new and old. The dance recital is offered each month before lunch, and other entertainment, such as local musicians, is also arranged on occasion.
“The senior center’s monthly luncheons are a fun and welcoming event,” said William C. Henson, President and CEO, WSL. “We’re happy to play a role in helping to make this experience available. It’s partnerships like this with the city that are enriching the daily lives of many of our community’s seniors.”
The next luncheon is scheduled for March 23. The senior center, which is where the luncheons are held, is located at 100 Campus Drive in Portsmouth.
WSL’s Portsmouth Senior Transportation program, also in partnership with the city, provides discounted shuttle services to and from the monthly luncheon. Area seniors can be picked up and dropped off at their home. Call 603-570-7791 to learn more about this program or to schedule transportation.
COAST buses regularly stop at the senior center, and seniors receive 50 percent off fares. For more information about COAST and COAST ADA paratransit transportation, please call COAST at 603-834-6010. For a complete lunch schedule, please visit www.cityofportsmouth.com and click on senior services.
